The CHEST Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the American College of Chest Physicians, a 17,000-member, international medical specialty society. Always action-oriented, The CHEST Foundation blends specialty medicine, public health, and a commitment to serve those in need. Partnering with ACCP members, their patients, and the public, The CHEST Foundation is able to offer prevention and education programs and resources in cardiopulmonary and critical care medicine. By forming strategic relationships with public and private sector organizations around the world, The CHEST Foundation can make an impact on world health one community at a time.
Our important initiatives emanate from The CHEST Foundation’s mission: "To provide resources to advance the prevention and treatment of diseases of the chest." The charitable endeavors of The CHEST Foundation demonstrate how ACCP staff, working together with volunteer leadership and strategic partners, can translate a vision into reality and promote healthier lives in the process.
- Become a leader in the fight to stem the rising epidemic of tobacco addiction, particularly among children and women.
- Designed and tested curricula in tobacco prevention, asthma education, and end-of-life care and recruited and trained ACCP members to deliver them.
- Provided educational media resources, such as the newly updated Speakers Kit Make the Choice Tobacco or Health, Stories at the
End-of-Life, and the CCFAP tool kit.
- Created new clinical research opportunities by collaborating with other medical specialty organizations.
- Encouraged ACCP members to continue to volunteer in their communities to provide medical care in underserved areas by expanding the Humanitarian Awards Program.
- Fostered humanism in medicine through the development of innovative patient care and teaching models that can be replicated across multiple disciplines and care settings.
- Harnessed the enthusiasm and commitment of extended family members and friends of ACCP’s global membership by creating the Ambassadors Group, who collectively leverage the impact of CHEST Foundation programs for ACCP members and their patients within the community where they live.
