The CHEST Foundation and the Kellogg School of Management
Case Competition 2007 - 2008

C a s e   G u i d e l i n e s

Each proposal should include a strategic plan by which an existing organization (eg, the Chicago Asthma Consortium, an existing business corporation) or a new organization created for the purpose can provide the recommended interventions. Proposals should include a statement of objectives, anticipated impacts on stakeholders, suggestions for organizational structure, detailed resource requirements (eg, money, personnel, and tangible assets), budgets, sources of sustainable funding, and measurable criteria for monitoring success. Competing teams will have access to information and medical experts in asthma treatment, as well as public health experts and leaders in the asthma field.

This case competition is open to all current graduate school students of University of Chicago and Northwestern University, but at least one Kellogg student OR Chicago Graduate School of Business student must be on the team. There is no limit to how many people can be on a team.

Each team will be assigned an advisor on behalf of The CHEST Foundation who will provide counsel on the proposals, as needed. These advisors are seasoned professionals from the health-care industry and social enterprise whose insights will enrich the quality of the proposals and provide participants with additional knowledge of the subject area.

The competition will be judged by nationally known leaders in asthma and social enterprise. Proposals are due on Monday, April 21, 2008. Two teams will be selected as finalists in May and will give featured presentations at a dinner on May 8, 2008 that will be attended by the judges, along with leaders from business and government. At the conclusion of the dinner, the panel of judges will decide on a winner and a runner-up. The winning team will receive $2,000 and the runner-up will receive $1,000.

Groups or individuals competing can register by emailing Taurean Egan at t-egan@kellogg.northwestern.edu by February 29, 2008, with names and contact information of group members.
