The Ambassadors Group members have been involved in promoting tobacco prevention to youth in schools, both nationally and internationally. By the end of the 2008-2009 school year, Ambassadors will have presented the Lung Lessonssm curriculum to students in China, Romania, Turkey, Guatemala, Michigan, Alaska, and Wisconsin. Additional presentations are planned for Connecticut, Florida, and Indiana. Through the Ambassadors’ efforts, school nurses and teachers have been educated and trained to carry on the tobacco prevention efforts of The CHEST Foundation. These professionals have given or will give lessons on prevention in Switzerland, Alabama, Florida, and Alaska.

The materials and educational content for the presentations are provided by The CHEST Foundation. However, some Ambassadors have created their own educational tools. The new CD, Make the Choice: Tobacco or Health? can be downloaded from The CHEST Foundation's Web site at http://accpspeakerskit.org and provides PowerPoint slides that can be used in making presentations to children. In addition, the Love Your Lungs wristbands can be purchased as gifts for the students after a presentation has been given.

If you are interested in giving a tobacco prevention education program in your local community, please contact Lee Ann Fulton at (847) 498-8332 or lfulton@chestnet.org.

Lending Library

The CHEST Foundation's new "Lending Library" is offering a variety of educational resources to support the Ambassadors Group Tobacco Education Programs. The CHEST Foundation's Lung LessonsSM program is designed for school children in grades 3 to 6. ACCP members and CHEST Foundation members who would like to present these tobacco education programs can now obtain supporting materials to enhance their presentations and make them more memorable for young children. To make it even easier, The CHEST Foundation manages the shipment of all loaned materials.

Complimentary resources available through the Lending Library include:

  • Lung Lessonssm: A Presenter's Guide DVD
  • Make the Choice: Tobacco or Health? CD-ROM
  • Interactive props, such as healthy and diseased lung models, jars of tar, and posters
  • Education Guide on Lung Health for Elementary School Children
  • A sample presentation script geared toward young audiences
  • Can't Run, Can't Hide CD-ROM

Additionally, Love Your Lungs® wristbands are available to presenters who wish to purchase them for schools at the cost of $75 for 50.

The CHEST Foundation offers stipends for up to eight presenters per year. Stipends up to $500 will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis to those who apply and meet specified conditions. The money can be used to purchase additional tobacco education materials, including props, t-shirts, banners, posters, or other materials purchased for a school.

Help make a difference in a child's life by volunteering your time to educate our youth about tobacco prevention and lung health. For more information about how to obtain presentation materials, or apply for a stipend, contact Lee Ann Fulton at lfulton@chestnet.org.
