The Ambassadors Group awarded their fourth Ambassadors Group Humanitarian Award of $5,000 at the 2009 Making a Difference Awards Dinner. The purpose of the award is to support The CHEST Foundation in honoring ACCP members who are reaching out either nationally or internationally to “make a difference” in respiratory health through education and medical support.

The Ambassadors Group members will be collecting and donating funds throughout the year to support a fifth Ambassadors Group Humanitarian Award recipient. Members are given the option to donate funds when they renew their membership dues and also are encouraged to donate funds in honor of someone’s birthday or a special event. The Ambassadors Group Humanitarian Award Review Committee, composed of the present and past chairs, will select the recipient of the fifth Ambassadors Group Humanitarian Award based on the following criteria:

  • The extent to which the project improves the lives of the people it serves
  • The number of people served by the project
  • The lack of access to other health-care options for the people served, due to economic or geographic constraints

With this award, the Ambassadors hope to continue to link the Ambassadors Group to the philanthropic efforts of The CHEST Foundation in support of the ACCP.

Child Care and Conference for Parents Support Group of the Arkansas Center for Technology-Dependent Children,
Little Rock, AR

Dr. Bauer is the project creator, director, and member of the project team. His project is to introduce the summer camp experience to ventilator-dependent children, their parents, and camp personnel, and encourage the parents to enroll their children in one overnight camp experience and a full day of activity at Camp Aldersgate. This is a summer camp for ventilator-dependent children that is equipped to support the children’s 24-hour ventilator needs. Through introducing the children and parents to this worthwhile camp experience, Dr. Bauer plans to offer a number of full-week camp experiences to ventilator-dependent children each summer, giving the children a wonderful outdoor camp experience, while also providing the children’s parents with 1 week of respite from the constant care of their children who are dependent on ventilators.
