The CHEST Foundation, in partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., has established the Thomas L. Petty, MD, Master FCCP Endowment in Lung Research. Considered a legend in pulmonary medicine, Thomas L. Petty, MD, Master FCCP, an ACCP Past President (1981-1982) and Master Fellow, will always be known for his pioneering work in lung research and in the treatment of respiratory conditions and for improving the care of patients with respiratory diseases. The CHEST Foundation’s 2009 Award Opportunities

The CHEST Foundation has awarded more than $3.5 million to ACCP members to foster cutting-edge clinical research—research that can provide new treatment options for patients around the world. These research grants reflect the multidisciplinary nature of the ACCP. In 2009, The CHEST Foundation will continue to offer a variety of clinical research awards in the following areas: geriatric development, lung cancer, lung transplantation, women’s health and Alpha-1 Antitrysin (AAT) Deficiency relating to COPD. Check this Web site after December 1, 2008 and take advantage of this great ACCP membership benefit and consider applying for one of the awards offered in 2009. Online applications will be available after January 1, 2009. Note that each application is carefully evaluated by ACCP members who have expertise in the content area of the award. The award deadline for all CHEST Foundation awards will be April 30, 2009.

In addition, information on the availability of CHEST Foundation Humanitarian Awards and the Roger C. Bone Advances in End-of-Life Care Award will be available after December 1, 2008, with the award deadline of April 30, 2009.
